RE: Firefox and Vista, A little help please!

I have even run Firefox in Safe mode with no relief from this problem. I have Vista Home Basic and have tried all variations of Firefox with and without add ons and extensions. Mine seems to be the worst when I return from Yahoo mail. It now crashes almost 100% of the time there. No solution just sympathy and empathy for your problem. I have spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot this to no avail. If and when I get a resolution, I'll resurrect this. I feel the frustration. Thanx folks

RE: Firefox and Vista, A little help please!

Eycom, Have you tried looking through these google results? "Vista Home" "Data Execution Prevention" firefox (google search link) It does give some results of others who are having similar, perhaps same, problem you are facing. One result (link) suggests Disabling Data Execution Prevention. I did a search on that term "Disabling Data Execution Prevention" windows vista (link) and there are suggestions out there to do this, but there is also warnings about doing it....that you could be leaving a big hole in your computer for worms/virus to attack if they get to your computer. I hesitate to even give this advice, but you'll need to weigh the frustration -vs- the risk and decide for yourself. Also, it does seem to be a weakness of the Vista Home Edition, I run the Ultimate, and hence, not having the same problem. Hope this might help. It does seem to be a rare problem. Some links suggest that you might want to try and be sure you have the most up-to-date versions of not only Firefox, but Java, and other applications which link into browsers. Again, good luck. -Dave Dave... appreciate you doing the 'look-see' for me. I've been up, down, and 'round the mountain looking for a fix, to no avail. I don't mind being handicapped in one hand with adequate support in the other. But, Windows' Data Execution Prevention won't allow the monitoring of Mozilla to be disabled on my machine. I suspect a recent windows update (unimportant one) has caused a conflict and Mozilla will face a hot-fix. At least, that's what I'm hoping. I don't really want to go back to IE, exclusively.

RE: Who is a four season TC'er?

I'm a four season TCer due to business travel. I don't bother with photos because, a Wally World parking lot covered with 3' of snow in Erie, PA. just doesn't have the "It" factor. :B

RE: Firefox and Vista, A little help please!

I, too, get the error message, and have had to live with it. Am running Windows VISTA, etc. It's just aggravating!

RE: Firefox and Vista, A little help please!

I also have Vista Home Premium 64 bit version with Mozilla's Firefox, but haven't had any of the error messages. Aside from a hidden virus running in the background, all I can think of is not enough RAM. Vista takes 1 Gig all by itself, so 2 Gigs is recommended. Running plenty of RAM, 3 Gig. Thanks for the thought, though.

RE: Firefox and Vista, A little help please!

Thanks for the response Dave. As mentioned, I have no add-ons currently installed. I'm running BitDefender AV, one of the best, and nothing shows up in the deep scan. Spybot S&D and Adaware aren't reporting anything either. Guess I'll email Mozilla and ask why my 'Crash Reporter' is on the fritz. I may have to go back to IE to get a seamless interface with Win-ders. Oh joy! Was just hoping someone here could offer a quick fix idea.

Firefox and Vista, A little help please!

Here's the deal... I'm running Vista Home Premium and the OS is currently up to date. I've been using Firefox as my default browser for quite sometime, currently v.3.0.4 and it's been working just fine. Recently, after a Windows Update, upon closing Firefox, Windows told me there was a problem and reported a conflict between Firefox and Windows' Data Execution Prevention. I've uninstalled Firefox, re-downloaded it. Running it barebones without add-ons. Firefox still works fine during the browsing session. But I keep getting the error report when I close it. Windows won't allow me to exclude Firefox from it's Data Execution Prevention monitoring system, so the nag screen persists. Anyone else familiar with this issue? Am I missing a setting somewhere in Firefox? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx!!

RE: AVAST! update runs out of storage

Five months is a long time in the world of "Windders". I'd make sure the OS is up to date, uninstall the AV and download the most recent version AVAST is offering.

RE: I-20 West of Atlanta, to I-75 South

I jump off at GA Hwy 44 to Eatonton, then Hwy 129 down to Macon and I-75. Takes you through the Oconee National Forest. Pretty drive, especially around the lake. Of course, camping is available if you'd like to spend a night or two.

RE: Passport America

I do about 40k miles a year on business and use my camper as a motel and restaurant. Between using government parks, city/county/state, and PA affiliated campgrounds, I've kept my camping fees around $15/night. Less if I include the dry-camping I do. However, I do have the flexibility to work around restrictions, which some people don't. I also view PA for what it is, ie, HALF PRICE camping. Since my expectations aren't very high, I'm seldom disappointed. It's just a place to stop for a day or so, work, replenish supplies, do laundry, and be on my way.

RE: Trip to New York

Will be tough finding an open campground on the American side of the falls. Winter in Buffalo is still brutal in March.

RE: good cg along I 77 south

My fav is Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill, SC, just south of Charlotte. FHUs for $15/night, $10... age 60. Nice setting on the lake, big sites, ranger on duty 18 hrs/day, gated with key pad. Wifi available last time I was there. Get there before dark.

RE: Question about protecting water tanks from freezing

Jeff... if your plumbing is protected and heated by the furnace, you'll be good to go. Just keep the coach warm with the furnace. I wouldn't hook up the fresh water hose. Work off the onboard tank. Pull out the sewer hose as needed. You'll get a lot of condensation while cooking and showering in the RV. Use exhaust fans while engaged in those activities. Crack a vent or window at night while sleeping.

RE: Cold Weather camping

Use exhaust fans while showering and cooking. Both generate a lot of moisture while camping in cold weather. So does sleeping. Although the furnace is running, crack a vent or window to keep condensation to a minimum.

RE: 12 v blanket

If you have an interest in the electrowarmth product, which is very good, IMO, check Backwoods Solar's online catalog for better pricing.

RE: Cold Weather Boondocking

Order one of these from backwoodssolar.com, best price, set the furnace at 55-60° and you'll be very comfortable with juice to spare.

RE: Campgrounds between Greenville, SC and Greensboro, NC

Kings Mountain SP isn't far from Cowpens. The Charlotte area offers several campgrounds, McDowell Park, Camp Wilderness Resort at Carowinds, KOA @ Ft. Mill, and Ebenezer Park, Rock Hill, SC (my fav). In the Greensboro area, I like Oak Hollow Family Campground, a City of High Point park.

RE: 12v heated blanket

I picked up a 12v throw blanket a number of years ago at a truck stop for about the same price. The draw back is it's not thermostatically controlled. For the camper application, I've found the 12v Electrowarmth mattress pad to be an excellent product. Best price I found was at Backwoods Solar.
